LifeSpice caught up with Raseel Gujral Ansal at the launch of Casa Paradox Bestsellers and Casa Pop Home & Fashion at Raghuvanshi Mills, Lower Parel, Mumbai. While the store is packed with glamorous statement pieces, we let Raseel show us her favourite five among the vibrant mix of furniture, chandeliers, wall art, clothes, trinkets and what not!
“I’m a porous medium. I’m influenced by everything,” says Raseel Gujral Ansal. Daughter of India’s leading artist Satish Gujral, her designs for the home are as much works of art as they are for utility. From delicate rose chandeliers to quirky and fun wall art, her brand Casa Paradox offers glamorous statement pieces, while Casa Pop is its young and kitschy pret diffusion line.
“If anything becomes novel or exclusive we equate it with luxury. Everything that’s luxurious is not necessarily novel. Everything that’s novel is not necessarily luxurious,” postulated Raseel while discussing her work. She started Raseel Gujral Ansal Worxx with her businessman husband Navin Ansal and since two decades has been creating furniture and home accents for celebrity homes across the country.
“My father’s influence pervades all of my life. The fact that I did the graphics at all a few years ago is because I can’t escape that influence. I’m very proud of any inherited genes! My father loves this collection. He absolutely loved the last series – Illustrati, but when he saw Casa Pop he’d said ‘All of that is very rich and glamorous but this is the best work you’ve ever done!’ To me that’s the biggest compliment,” shared Raseel.
The greatest luxuries in life for Raseel are space and time. On a more materialistic level, she loves jewellery. “I have satiated my desire for art by being able to produce it; otherwise earlier I was a very avid and rabid art buyer! Apart from my father’s work I’ve bought all the young people’s work in the past 30 years. The first cheque I got was for a consultancy fees. I remember I’d bought Dharmanarayan Dasgupta. I was always art struck, till the time I started expressing myself in that format; which was another luxury.”
Here are Raseel’s personal favourite five products at the new Mumbai store:
