Lenny Kravitz – the musician, actor and designer – has collaborated with Leica to present a special limited edition camera set, the Leica M-P ‘Correspondent’.
World famous musician, Lenny Kravitz has quite a few passions besides music. One among them is photography. The first camera Kravitz ever used was his father’s Leicaflex, which he received at the age of 21 as a gift from his father. The special edition camera he has created in collaboration with Leica Camera AG is inspired by that very beautifully aged camera. Named Leica M-P ‘Correspondent’ by Lenny Kravitz for Kravitz Design, the set comprises a Leica M-P digital rangefinder camera and two fast classics from the range of Leica lenses – the Leica Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 ASPH and the Leica Summilux-M /50 mm f/1.4 ASPH. Delivered in a bespoke case, the special edition is limited to 125 sets worldwide.
The glossy black enamel of the camera and the two lenses have been intentionally aged as homage to Kravitz’s well-used camera. A distinctive patina that’s usually caused by many years of constant use, was achieved by ‘ageing’ every camera and lens of the edition, entirely by hand.

Another interesting feature of this edition is the unusual trim of the Leica M-P cameras in snakeskin! Sourced naturally from controlled sources, without flouting any species conservation regulations, it is used in premium glossy black for the camera and wrist straps.
The Leica M-P ‘Correspondent’ set also contains a special version of the Leica Summilux-M 50 mm f/1.4 ASPH. This lens borrows the classic design of its ancestor from 1959 and reflects the typical features of its predecessor, such as the scalloped focusing ring and a finely knurled aperture ring.
Needless to say, the camera and lenses of the Leica M-P ‘Correspondent’ by Lenny Kravitz for Kravitz Design set are identical to their series production equivalents in performance and technical specifications. It offers all the technical advantages of the Leica digital rangefinder system cameras and is as enduring and robust as the standard Leica M-System. As for the two Leica lenses, their essential properties include superior optical performance and exceptional versatility.
Lenny Kravitz has also recently launched a book of his photography titled Flash. Kravitz’s photography offers insights into the nomadic life of a musician ‘on the road’. Besides being distributed by the publishers, teNeues Verlag, the book is also available at Leica Camera AG in Leica Stores and Leica Boutiques.
